There are all types of different Credit Card Scanners. Some are designed to a part of a keyboard, some are stand alone USB card readers that can be integrated into most PC's and then others are stand alone hardware devices in which there sole purpose is to processing debit and/or credit cards.

Regardless of which type of hardware is right for your individual business needs you may be able to purchase less expensive POS equipment from Ebay as opposed to purchasing directly from the merchant account providers. Ebay doesn't only sell refurbished equipment, they also sell brand new Credit Card Scanners and usually at a discount.
